Shop by Rug Construction

When shopping for a rug, it is important to consider the construction method used to make it. This can greatly affect the quality, durability and price of the rug. Two of the most popular rug construction methods are hand-knotted and machine-made.

Hand Knotted Constructions

Hand-knotted area rugs are made by skilled artisans who tie each individual knot by hand. This method is time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the result is a rug that is unique, durable and of high quality. Hand-knotted rugs are often made from natural materials like wool, silk or cotton, and can last for generations with proper care.

Machine Made Constructions

Machine-made rugs are produced using computerized machines. They are quicker to make and are therefore less expensive than their hand-knotted counterparts. However, machine-made rugs lack the uniqueness and durability of hand-knotted rugs. They are often made from synthetic materials like nylon or polyester, and may not last as long as a hand-knotted rug.
