What Is The Process of Making Tufted Rugs or Carpet?
A hand-tufted rug is made by pulling yarn through its backing material using a device called a tufting gun.
- After the rug design is completed, a machine cuts the loops to form a smooth cut-pile surface.
- The rug is then removed from the frame to expose its back side.
- A second fabric is glued on that surface, holding all of the yarns in place.
- Tufted rugs are produced the same way as a hooked rug, except the loops on top are snipped to create a cut pile that’s exceptionally soft.
